Our mission is for our family to earn our living together growing and providing nourishing food while promoting healthy lifestyles, partnership with the land, and strengthening the economy in Washington County, Maine.
Check out Tide Mill Farm on Farmers Almanac TV! We have had a restful winter home-schooling our three children and preparing healthy meals. Winter time has allowed us to be more active in organizations and projects that support the local, organic agriculture movement. We have been active in the Maine Feeds Maine movement, our local Downeast Farmers Group, our local Weston A. Price chapter, a local Food Mapping Project and the Farms to Schools group. We have been busy planning for our upcoming season, deciding what worked well and what we want to improve upon to feed our community in the healthiest way possible. Support your Local Farmer and Join our CSA! (Community Supported Agriculture) By joining our CSA and helping us to cover some of our up-front costs we incur before we have fresh produce and chicken available, we offer you a $25 credit for our food. Please visit our CSA page for more information and to find out how you can make a pre-payment for our fresh, pasture raised chicken and farm fresh vegetables. We have a good supply of our organic beef and pork. We also have improved our systems for making our fresh raw cow's milk easily accessible. Please contact us to place your order for our un-pasteurized, un-homogenized whole milk. Thanks to your support, we have mostly sold out of our chicken for the season (except for some wings, liver and backs). Although we will be welcoming our first chicks of the year on April 9th, we will not have any chicken available for sale until June 1st. Thanks to Crown of Maine Organic Cooperative (www.crownofmainecoop.com) we have been able to provide carrots, potatoes, beets, cabbage and rutabaga from other Organic Maine Farms throughout the winter. Mark your calendar for our 8th Annual Seedling Sale on Memorial Day Weekend at the Whiting Corner from 10:00-3:00 May 24th and 25th (Saturday and Sunday). We will have a diverse array of certified organic hybrid and heirloom seedlings available: vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs, and annual and perennial flowers. Our greenhouse is up and running with lots of baby plants in it and on a sunny day it easily reaches 100 degrees! Working with the soil and planting seeds in March in Maine has been wonderfully rejuvenating. Although our fresh balsam wreaths and other balsam creations won’t be available until November, you may still order our one-of-a-kind ornamental chicken feet and honey peel salami online. Our regular Saturday market on Tide Mill Farm will begin on Saturday, May 31st from 10:00-3:00. Our Monday Market on Tide Mill Farm from 2:00-5:00 pm will begin on July 7th. Please visit our “Find Us” page for more information on our 2008 summer schedule and how to find our foods, including our new and improved buying clubs and home delivery schedule. Rachel Bell and Sam Furth write and perform folk rock and country songs inspired by their homeplace, Tide Mill Farm and our surrounding community. Rachel and her family are members of the eighth and ninth generation Bells. Visit http://www.myspace.com/rebellsongs to hear songs and for more information about r.e. bell.
